autotroph

Autotrophs are organisms capable of sustaining themselves through means of photosynthesis and chemosynthesis to create complex organic molecules such as carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Plants are autotrophs because they utilize sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to produce chemical energy.
