genetically modified organisms

Genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, are organisms that has had their genetic material changed or altered via genetic engineering methods. Many organisms have been genetically modified including mammals, plants, fish, and microorganisms such as bacteria and yeast. Many commercial food products such as corn and potatoes are genetically modified to ensure freshness or make it more convenient for farmers who do not have to spray pesticides on corn with insect-killing genes.
